The Future of the Chair

In a World when “sitting is the new smoking” what is the future of the humble and not so humble chair? To understand the future sometimes you must look to the past. Join Alex Richie, Creative Director of e-2 and Alan Boyd “chair maven” on a fun, entertaining and educational journey through the history of design and a vision of the future!

Alan Boyd

Alan originally trained as a cabinet maker in the Shipyards of Scotland. He moved to “down under” and has been involved at a senior level of two of the most famous chair companies and brands in the World; Herman Miller and Thonet. Through his role with Herman Miller, Alan has close connections with the Eames Office in Los Angeles. He has presented to the architect and design community internationally on furniture, sustainability, Eames design philosophy and of course chairs. He has been interviewed by design magazines, newspapers and radio as an expert on chairs. Alan has always been intrigued by chairs, especially those that seem timeless and has a wealth of remarkable stories behind many famous and not so famous chairs.
